Public Notice
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has reviewed an application from Nature’s Best Compost, Inc., to establish and operate a manure and source-separated waste composting facility. Cow manure will be brought in from Wilroads Feed Yard. Paunch waste from National Beef Packing Company will be brought to the site as well. These materials will be windrowed together to make a compost product.
Nature’s Best Compost, Inc. is a privately-owned company and is locating this composting operation 1.5 miles southwest of Fort Dodge in Ford County, Kansas at 11449 Lariat Way, Dodge City, KS 67801. They are locating within the permitted Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation of Wilroads Feed Yard, but a permit from the Bureau of Waste Management is required because they are bringing in paunch waste from off-site. The compost will be sold as farmland soil nutrients.
KDHE has reviewed the application from Nature’s Best Compost, Inc. and has found the application to be in conformance with state solid waste statutes and regulations. KDHE is providing public notice of this draft permit for the proposed composting facility described herein.
