Notice of Hearing

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has prepared a modified Kansas Water Pollution Control Permit, A-URPL-H007 for Husky Hogs LLC, located in Long Island, Kansas.

This is a new permit for the construction and operation of a confined feeding facility with a maximum capacity of 6,750 head (2,700 animal units) of swine weighing more than 55 pounds and 10,240 head (1,024 animal units) of swine weighing less than 55 pounds, for a total of 3,724 animal units. This represents no change in head count or animal units. A new mortality composting structure is proposed. The facility is located in parts of Section 34, Township 1 South, Range 20 West in Phillips County, Kansas. A notice in the Kansas Register dated November 10, 2022, informed the public of the availability of the proposed water pollution control permit for Husky Hogs, LLC.

Copies of the permit application, draft permit, and other documents may be viewed in person at the Topeka, Kansas office by scheduling an appointment, or requested by writing to: KDHE, Livestock Waste Management Section, 1000 SW Jackson St., Suite 430, Topeka, KS 66612 or via telephone at 785-296-6432 or fax at 785-559-4258. A copy of the permit application can be found at http://www.kdhe.ks.gov/livestock. Appropriate copying charges will be assessed for each request. The public hearing has been scheduled in conformance with Kansas Administrative Regulation 28-16-61.

A public hearing on the Husky Hogs, LLC proposed permit has been scheduled:

  • Time: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. (CST)
  • Location: Almena Community Center, 421 Main, Almena KS 67622

The purpose of the public hearing is to inform the public, stakeholders, and regulated community about the proposed Water Pollution Control Permit. The hearing will consist of outlining the proposed facility and proposed permit, then the hearing will be open for public comment. Any individual with a disability may request accommodation to participate in the public hearing process and may request the provided documents in an accessible format. Requests for accommodation to participate in the hearing should be made at least five working days in advance of the hearing by contacting KDHE.
