Public Notice

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has reviewed an application from Waste Connections of Kansas, Inc., for a permit to establish and operate a waste tire collection center. Waste tires will be collected on-site, as a part of the existing transfer station operations, then separated by being on rims or not. Tires will be placed in two separate roll-off containers, which will be taken to a waste tire processor approximately every thirty days. A maximum of 800 Passenger Tire Equivalents (PTEs) will be allowed on-site, according to their proposed Facility Operating Plan (1 PTE = 20 lbs. of whole or processed tires).

The Collection Center will be located in the SE ΒΌ of Section 26, Township 26S, Range 1W, in Sedgwick County, at the address of 4300 W, 37th St. North, Wichita, Kansas. KDHE has reviewed the application and found it to be in conformance with state solid waste statutes and regulations.

KDHE is providing public notice of its intent to issue a permit to Waste Connections of Kansas, Inc, for the proposed waste tire collection center described herein. A copy of the administrative record, which includes the draft permit and all information regarding this permit action, is available for public review until March 18, 2022, during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, at the following location:

Anyone wishing to comment on the draft permit information should submit written statements postmarked no later than March 18, 2022, to Emery Wiens at the following address:

After consideration of all comments received, the director of the Division of Environment will make a final decision on whether to issue the permit. Notice of the decision will be given to anyone who submitted written comments during the comment period and to those who requested notice of the final permit decision.
