Secretary Schwab Announces Resignation of Johnson County Election Commissioner

TOPEKA – Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab today announced the resignation of Fred Sherman, who has served as Johnson County Election Commissioner since his appointment in 2021.

“I thank Fred for his service to the people of Johnson County,” Schwab said. “I appreciate his commitment to administering elections that are safe, secure, and transparent.”

During his tenure, Sherman oversaw the successful administration of multiple elections, including the completion of post-election audits and recounts.

The Office of the Secretary of State will work in coordination with Johnson County officials to evaluate candidates, conduct interviews, and appoint a successor. Additional details regarding the selection process for the next Johnson County Election Commissioner will be announced in the coming days.
